Classic Cheeseburger

Ground Beef (80% lean): 4 ounces (113 grams).
Salt: 1/4 teaspoon (1.2 grams).
Black Pepper (freshly ground): 1/4 teaspoon (0.9 grams).
Hamburger Buns: 2.
Cheese (e.g., Cheddar): 2 slices.
Lettuce Leaves: 4.
Tomato (sliced): 1 medium.
Onion (sliced): 1/2 medium.
Pickles: 4 slices.

Preheat a grill or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat.
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and shape them into patties, each about 1/2 inch thick.
Season both sides of the patties with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Place the patties on the hot grill or griddle. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or adjust for your preference.
In the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty and close the lid or cover with a dome to melt the cheese.
Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
Assemble the burger: Place a patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, onion, and pickles.
Close the burger with the top half of the bun.
